On 18th November, a joint Student Chapter visit to the helipad of Heliservices (Hong Kong) LTD was held from 10:00 to 12:00, which was the first joint Student Chapter site visit held by HKU Student Chapter and HKUST Student Chapter. There were totally 33 participants.

As the helipad is located in Lam Kam Road, where the transportation is rather inconvenient, the Student Chapters decided to hire a coach to go there directly. On that morning, all participants gathered at Kowloon MTR station and went to the parking place of the coach together. The coach arrived at the helipad within 45 minutes.

Heliservices (Hong Kong) LTD is Hong Kong's longest-established and leading helicopter charter company. One of their helipad situates at Shek Kong in the New Territories, the other one situates at the roof of the Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

During the site visit, the quality manager of Heliservices (Hong Kong) LTD, Mr. Alvan Copper, gave us a thorough explanation both on the maintenance and aeronautical engineering of helicopter. We first had a look at the office of the helipad, where Mr. Cooper introduced how their maintenance met the aviation standard. Next to the office was the hanger for helicopter maintenance. Mr. Cooper explained the function and working principle of different parts of the helicopter in an engineering approach. Finally, we visited the helipad outside the hanger and took a group photo.

The feedback from the students was positive, since most of them have not seen a real helicopter so closely or even sat in a helicopter before. The visit ended at 12:00 and they returned to Kowloon Tong MTR station by coach.
